Starlings Wins Tournament!
South Dallas Starlings Wins 3rd Place

On May 9, 2009, Rae’s Hope, Inc.'s volleyball team the South Dallas Starlings, competed exceptionally well by placing 3rd at the Plano Sports Authority Tournament. Odds were against them because they finished the season with a 1 and 23 record. The week before the tournament the girls felt it was time to change direction of their workout. For preparation, they practiced harder with intensity and determination. The girls were much more focused with discipline and confidence.

When Saturday the 9th came the girls had to be at Plano. She also reminded them of the hard practice they had that week before 7:45 am. The first game they appeared to be ready, but they weren’t because the girls lost. Coach Fields told the girls if they lose the next game they would be traveling back to Dallas.

That was motivating enough. When the girls hit the floor for the next game they were ready to play. Serves went over and the girls were bumping the ball back over the net. They even tried running after a few balls.

They won the next two games and they were very excited. They were serving well, diving on the floor for the balls and they were very confident in themselves. Self-esteem was high. They were finally playing as a team. They were winners again. After they won this game they shouted and screamed with excitement and gratitude. They were surprised them selves to see how important it was to believe in themselves and work together as a team. At the end of the tournament the girls had placed third.

The joy that they show on their faces was delightful. The 2nd and 3rd grade girls were winners. What a wonderful day this was!
