The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer; to remember loved ones lost, and to fight back against the disease. At the Relay, the Rae’s Hope Team and other participants camped out at Cobb Field House and took turns walking or running around a track. Rae’s Hope had a representative on the track at all times during the event. Because cancer never sleeps, relays are overnight events up to 24 hours in length. In this event Rae’s Hope, Inc. had 60 people to walk and donated of $300.00 to the event.
One reason the organization participates in this event is because the Executive Director and Founder, Angela Fields of Rae’s Hope, Inc., is a breast cancer survivor. She was diagnosed in 2008 with stage three cancer and is in remission.
With the determination not to allow cancer to beat her, Angela now feels it is now necessary to bring awareness of this disease to young women and young men. Rae’s Hope, Inc. encourages survivors to speak with youth about preventive measures like exercising and having a healthy diet.
